No carbon monoxide shutoff. This model has run, overload and oil sensors but no CO detection. Never run it in or near an enclosed space, and if CO shutoff matters to you, the 4500ies in this same line has it.
Altitude — please read this one
RVMP publishes a maximum installation altitude of 1,500 m — about 4,921 ft — for this generator. Colorado Springs sits at 6,035 ft. Denver is 5,280 ft. Both are above the manufacturer's stated ceiling, and so is most of the state worth camping in.
We are not going to bury that. In practice these engines run at Front Range elevations, but they run with less output than the label, they can be harder to start, and you are outside the manufacturer's stated envelope, which is worth knowing before you rely on one. RVMP does not publish a derate percentage for the portables — the 3.5% per 1,000 ft figure in their manuals covers the installed generators, not these. If we apply that same rate as a rough guide, this unit's 2,700 W would be nearer 2,130 W in Colorado Springs, but that is our estimate and not RVMP's published figure.
If you are buying this to run at 6,000 ft or higher, talk to us first. Sometimes the answer is a larger unit; sometimes it is a different machine altogether. Either way you should hear it before you buy, not after.
