How Does the Filax Switch Work?

The Filax from Victron Energy is an open transition transfer switch that has been created to switch sensitive loads, such as computers or other modern devices from one AC source to the other. The priority source is usually the main, shore power, or a generator, and the alternate source is an inverter. The device smoothly switches between them in less than 20 milliseconds, so sensitive lands can continue to operate. The user does not sense any disruption in the process.

The load is transferred to the alternate source if the voltage of the priority source drops below the threshold value, or its frequency drops or increases too much concerning the threshold values.

The only limitation of this solution is that it is not intended to power high-power household items such as electric motors or washing machines.

Colorado Standby offers two different options of Victron Transfer Switches:

Victron Filax 2 Transfer Switch CE 230V/50Hz-240V/60Hz SDFI0000000

This Filax Automatic Transfer Switch has a low voltage switching threshold of 180V, a low voltage reverse switching threshold of 188V, and a maximum continuous input voltage of 260V for its priority and alternate source.

Victron Filax 2 Transfer Switch CE 110V/50Hz-120V/60Hz SDFI0000110

This Transfer Switch has a low voltage switching threshold of 88V, a low voltage reverse switching threshold of 92V, and a maximum continuous input voltage of 130V for its priority and alternate source.
